Strep!

Strep has hit our family once again.  And as the girls have proven on almost all occasions, they can't just one have something without giving it to the other!

I went to the walk-in with Venily on Saturday after she woke up at midnight with a 102 fever and was complaining of a sore throat.  I looked in her mouth and her throat was RED w/ white bumps- I knew right away it was strep.  I should have just had Haven tested at the same time, but she wasn't complaining at all and had no fever.  Venily was put on Azithromycin.  She was in a fantastic mood, however, so we decided to come right from the walk-in (after giving her her antibiotics and Ibuprofen) to the county fair.  I probably won't be winning any mother-of-the-year awards this year, but she was soooo heartbroken when I told her we couldn't go and that was all she'd been talking about for a week, lol!  And she certainly wasn't acting like a sick child!

2 days later... I was grocery shopping with Haven (while Jason had Venily at the doctor's for a follow-up on her strep) and I felt Haven and she was burning up! :(  We had to go all the way home first since I had a cart full of groceries and then back to the walk-in.  The doctor didn't even have to do a throat culture.  She looked in her throat and was like, yep, that's strep! :(  So she is on Azithromycin now too!

This is the 2nd time both girls have had strep.  That coupled with the fact that they both have very large tonsils, I'm thinking that they will have to have them removed at some point.  However, I had strep a LOT as a child (once or twice every year) and never had mine out- though mine are so small you can't even see them.

At the fair I also noticed a weird hard bump on Haven's wrist and then kind of forgot about it.  I was looking at it again today and decided to make an appointment to get it looked at.  So, we have that tomorrow as well.  Based on my internet research, it looks like it's a Ganglion Cyst.  Lovely.  I swear it's one weird thing after another around here!  I will write more tomorrow after we are back from the doctor's (for the 4th time this week....).

11 years together, 6 married!

Jason and I celebrated our anniversaries July 7th and 8th.  July 7th marked 11 YEARS of being together and July 8th marked 6 YEARS of marriage.  It is crazy how long we've been together, lol!  We celebrated by going hiking and watching a movie at the theater (KID-FREE!).

This picture makes me laugh...

And here is one from our wedding 6 years ago!

4th of July!

The 4th of July is one of my top 3 favorite holidays!!  We kicked off our 4th of July with our annual Lily Lake parade! :)  Jason and I usually put a lot of time and effort into what the girls are/wear each year, but kind of forgot about it this year, lol.  So, we threw some things together the night before...

Venily was Amelia Earhart (Jason made her jeep into a plane- with working propeller in the front).  She won 1st place for her category and $15! :)

She had a scarf too, but it was 90 degrees, so that didn't get worn!

Haven was an American cheerleader!  She won 2nd place for her category and $10!

Not bad for just throwing things together last minute! :)  And they had a great time too!  Cousins Chase and Dawson were here too!

We saw fireworks one night and took the rv out on it's first trip to go see them, lol!  The girls were not that impressed with the fireworks seeing as they usually go to bed at 8pm, so they weren't in the best moods, but I think it was still a good experience for them!

We also went to the Union Grove parade, which is always fun!

And my Uncle's Party that he has every year.  Which was also my last day of seeing my sister before she left for Colorado! :(  She is gone on her 2nd Americorps project and will be gone for another 10 months.  I am really sad about this!  I'm hoping that I'll be able to visit her some time while she's gone, but Jason and Colorado are not a good combo (he becomes obsessed!)!

Summer School for Venily!

Yes, I am still ridiculously behind on my blog posts!

This summer, Venily went to summer school for 6 weeks!  She had a great time!  She got to ride the bus to and from school.  She loved it and I'm really glad I sent her!  She also had the same teacher, Mrs. Jacobs, that she'll be having next year for kindergarten, so that's great!  On the last day of school, all of the summer school classes went on a field trip to the movie theater and got to pick between Ice Age or Brave.  Venily picked Brave but said that it was pretty scary at the end.  My poor sheltered little child, lol!

She also got a mostly positive report from her teacher at the end of the 6 weeks.  However, it seems that Venily needs to be reminded often to keep her hands to herself and has trouble paying attention when she's by her friends, so we are really working on that!

We are very excited for kindergarten in just a little over a month from now!  We have registration and school pictures tomorrow!!!  We also have a HUGE school supply list that we are working on getting everything from.  I think it's a little ridiculous that each child needs to bring 8 boxes of crayons, 10 gluesticks, plus a million other things, but what do I know... lol!

Here are some picks of her before getting on the bus the first day of summer school... :)

Family Trip to LaCrosse/ Sparta!

I plan to do a post of some of the things we did this summer, but decided to give this trip it's own post!  We had a lot of fun!  We went over Father's Day/ Jacki's birthday weekend.  We stayed for 4 days and 3 nights.

We went swimming in the hotel pools.
Rode about 8 miles on the Sparta trail.

Which included old, abandoned railroad tunnels.  The longest one we went through was 3/4 of a mile long!  It was pitch black inside and you couldn't even see the light at the end of the tunnel and had to use flashlights.  During half the year, there are bats inside, but luckily not while we were there, lol!
 Finally at the end!
Venily was a rock star and rode almost the whole time by herself on 2 wheels!  We decided that she needs a bigger bike though.  She rode a 12" and we checked the height/bike chart and she should be riding an 18", lol!
The western part of Wisconsin is so pretty!

More tunnels!

Woodchip fight in the rain!

Lots of "Touristy" stuff!

How do you fit 8 people in a 2 bedroom hotel?  LOL!
Father's Day!  The Dads were riding the Human Powered Trails

Lookout Point

 More Swimming

We did some state park- hopping on the drive there and the drive back!
 Temple of Guadalupe
 More State Parks!
 Ready to go canoeing!

Was obsessed with "People Berries" the whole time.  (aka blackberries- berries that people can eat!)
